Ive started my cam swap on my 1993 z28 i picked up a cam from a local speed shop very similar to the cc503 and the cc306 its a hybrid of the two if you will,
The specs on it are 224/236 502/520 with 1.5rrs
Im going to be running 1.6rrs and from what i hear it will bump everything up by 020 so if im right ill have 244/256 522/540 which if im thinking correctly is alittle bigger then the cc503.
So far ive pulled the hood off the car, pulled the fans, radiator, condensor, ac compressor, ac lines, water pump, opti, fuel rails, intake, vakve covers, balancer, crank hub, pully bracket, and finally the timing cover.
The block was a complete grease ball, i had an intake leak from the front and it leaked all over the timing cover, and opti. Then the seals on the timing cover were leaking.
So i wire wheeled the block and heads, all the gasket surfaces, and replaced the timing chain because when i took the cover off the chain was so loose im suprised i didnt jump time it have it break all together,
I was also able to replaced the timing gasket and install the timing cover WITHOUT dropping the oil pan. I used black rtv silicone as a lubericant and coated the gasket and the area where it sits inside of the timing cover and installed it. I then coated the areas where they both meet and let it set,
I then fully ported my intake, and smoothed the ski jumps in the runners, and then wheeled the intake and painted it red then polished the intake rails, so now ive bought the roller rockers and the valve springs. And waiting to install the springs.
So far a total on everything
custom grind cam 100$ (brand new)
Intake gaskets (free)
Timing gasket (free)
Water pump gaskets (free)
Valve cover gaskets (re using)
Timing chain 10$ (brand new)
1.6 scorpian RRS free (brand new)
.650 lift valve springs 88$ (brand new)
Cam lube 3$ (obviously new)
Opti spark cap and rotor free (used)
So i have 201$ into my cam swap which the valve springs were a gift from a family member for christmas so 123$ and i have a cammed lt1, i do have all of the supporting mods including lightly ported heads, from what i seen looks like the last guy just cleaned up casting flash and smoothed everything out.
But i think ill need a bigger stall, im running a 2200 right now thinking ill have to jump up to a 2500-3000. Was looking at the yank 3600. But was told thats too big.
Ill have pics posted here soon. Just need to get the time to do so.
